Gresham’s is a co-educational school for day and boarding pupils aged 3 to 18. Set in nearly 200 acres of countryside, the school is just four miles from the North Norfolk coast. Gresham’s was founded in 1555 by Sir John Gresham. He went on to become Lord Mayor of London and forged close ties with the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers. Strong links with the City of London remain today.
With beautiful Victorian buildings, acres of sports pitches and woodland, and the Norfolk coast nearby, the school has an exceptional location which marks it out as an academic, sporting and cultural centre not just for its pupils but for the entire region. Rather than travelling across town to facilities as you might at a city school, Gresham’s has everything you could possibly need on its doorstep.
Classrooms, boarding houses and communal facilities are all spacious and modern. Sporting facilities are first class and cater for an unusually wide range of activities. There are also large modern art studios, and excellent drama facilities, both indoors and out. The Auden, a fully-functional school theatre, provides weekly entertainment from touring musicians and plays. There is also a Greek-style amphitheatre in the woods which is used in the summer as a venue for Speech Day and for other events throughout the year. The superb sports facilities include astro-turfs, a swimming pool, rifle range, multi-surface tennis courts, squash courts and more, and allow the school to host numerous sports festivals. During the Easter and Summer holidays, Gill Sports deliver a variety of sports camps for children aged 5 to 16.
Gresham’s is a cheerful, vibrant school with a close-knit community, and a place where everyone has the chance to make their mark; a fantastic environment for all-rounders and young people who like being challenged and trying new experiences.
Famous alumni include actress Olivia Colman, director Stephen Frears, rugby players Tom and Ben Youngs, composer Benjamin Britten, poet W. H. Auden, Sir Alan Lloyd Hodgkin (1963 Nobel Prize winner in Physiology or Medicine), entrepreneur Sir James Dyson, and BBC founder Lord John Reith.
